Karl May (* 25. Februar 1842 in Ernstthal; 30. März 1912 in Radebeul; eigentlich Carl Friedrich May) - mehrere hundert Werke in einem Band! Karl May war einer der produktivsten Autoren von Abenteuerromanen. Er ist einer der meistgelesenen Schriftsteller deutscher Sprache und laut UNESCO einer der am häufigsten übersetzten deutschen Schriftsteller. Die weltweite Auflage seiner Werke wird auf 200 Millionen geschätzt, davon 100 Millionen in Deutschland. Bekannt wurde er vor allem durch seine sogenannten Reiseerzählungen, die vorwiegend im Orient, in den Vereinigten Staaten und im Mexiko des 19. Jahrhunderts angesiedelt sind. Besondere Berühmtheit erlangten die in drei Bänden zusammengefassten Geschichten um den Indianer Winnetou. Viele seiner Werke wurden verfilmt, für die Bühne adaptiert, zu Hörspielen verarbeitet oder als Comics umgesetzt.

Karl May is a German author, but he writes about the life of the Native Americans at the time of immigration of the European settlers. The main characters are some of these settlers and some of the Natives, who form bonds of friendship and also relationships of hate and rivalry. The stories are about two different cultures discovering each other and clashing. They are about some individuals who make friends and try to coexist. They tell about the others who try to destroy and control, too. We all know who won.I devoured these books when I was a kid. They made me dream and imagine that I was one of them, and I usually pictured myself on the Natives' side. I felt they were written from the heart.
As for the "some violence", yes there are battles and there are deaths, and some scalping, too. These things did happen in real life.
I got the whole series on Kindle to read them once more after so many years, and I am under the spell, again!
You need to know German to read this edition! I think there are translations for just about any language out there!

Too much German Christians superiority

Karl May was a great writer - it caught my attention as an early teenager back in the days - now it's just fun to get back into the stories again
Grew up with it and now have the whole collection.
It's Karl May's collected works. It is exactly what you would expect, except the order is odd. I read some of his books a long time ago. I guess it didn't age as well as I would have hoped.
